Undersized Urbanite Update!

Still so much to do, I won't have time to make all new furniture, especially since I will be out all day tomorrow, so I'm using some pieces from Skull Academy, just for the pics, before we start our new doll show, we'll have all new furniture for the doll apartment.

Finally started working on MH doll apartment

Hey everyone, I finally started working on my doll apartment for a contest I'm entering. It's the Undersized Urbanite Dollhouse Contest, the deadline is May 5. Yikes, still so much work to do and little time. Here is what it looks like right now.

Still needs a few more layers of cardboard before I start the paper mache.

Boy's Dorm Room Pics

Here is more pics of the new boys dorm room at Skull Academy.

The only big change is the new bunk bed. Moved Vampiro's bed to the other side and 

had to remove the ottoman. 

Oh and I almost forgot, the new bedspreads. I wanted to get the same

fabric as the before picture, I love the skull heads, but I could not find the fabric anywhere or 

anything similarr, the mustache fabric were actually bandanas. 

  

  
 

Dorm Room Makeover

Hello everyone, have you seen the new boys dorm room, I changed the wallpaper, you can see in the 'before' pictures why I did it. I used shelf paper for the walls, bad idea, I didn't glue it, I just used the adhesive behind the paper but didn't turn out so good.

I removed the shelf paper and glued on wallpaper, looks so much better now.

The dorm room will have more changes, I'm building a new bunk bed because

new students are moving into the boy's dorm room. I will post the new pictures

once the room is done.

Dollhouse Materials

Hey everyone, I am excited about starting my new projects in the new year. Two dollhouses, one for a Monster High doll Family and the other for a Barbie family. They are going to be the backdrop of a new show we're creating, a spin-off of Skull Academy. The Monster High doll house will be dark and scary, the barbie house will be pretty and bright. Not sure if I will work on both at the same time, or do one at a time. I guess I'll see how I feel when I start. I am entering both houses in the Undersized Urbanite dollhouse contest due in May 2014. Five months should be plenty of time to finish. If you want to follow along and make your own dollhouse, follow us here for progress pictures. I will list tell you what you need so you can start collecting materials before January. Christmas is a great time to find items, from your present package...so before you throw it away, look at it and decide if you can use it to build your dollhouse.

For the base boxes I like to buy new ones, you can buy boxes at a moving or packaging company.

Check our yellow page listings for ones near you... the bigger box 24 x 15 x 15 cost be just over $2

and the smaller one 15 x 15 x 15 cost me just over $1.

Collect lots of scrap pieces of cardboard for layering. Layering the cardboard

is one of the most important steps to make it strong and durable. You can 

also find cardboard boxes at your grocery store or ask stores if you can 

go through their recyclables. The packaging company I go to lets me

go through all their recyclable cardboard and take what I need for free!

Styrofoam...you can find styrofoam in a lot of gift packages.

Gift-wrap paper rolls, perfect for adding support to the dollhouse, plus

one of the houses, I will be creating another spiral staircase...the roll

is perfect for the stairs. 

You will also need lots of glue...

paint, scrap paper or gift wrap paper for decorating etc...

New Dollhouse Contest

I'm so excited, The Undersized Urbanite Dollhouse Contest has started. I have given myself a crazy challenge. Build 2 dollhouse before May 2014. I haven't even started yet, just in the planning stage

now, this is what I have planned so far. I want to dollhouses to look like dollhouses, but I also

need to make it easy for filming a new doll series we're creating. Wish me luck :)
