School House Tour - The Lounge

Hey everyone, I hope you're all having fun on your March break. Here is another tour of one of the rooms inside Skull Academy. This is one of my favourite rooms.

The Lounge (before)

Here are pictures of the cardboard state of the school house, I wish I took more pictures but these are the only ones I got until I started decorating it. This was suppose to be a living room at first until we decided to make it a school house instead of a dollhouse.

When I made this school house, we always thought about making movies, but here and there, we never thought Skull Academy would come this far with almost 70 episodes done already, it has become more like a soap opera. We are so grateful to all our viewers who watch, rate, share and comment on our videos.

So if I was making the house now, knowing about the Skull Academy show, I would have made a few changes to the school house. One change that I could change without causing a whole lot of mess is removing this paper towel pole, lets call it the pillar. It got in the way of a lot of the scenes we were filming for the show. So I removed it from the lounge and the classroom. It made a big gap in the floor, so I paper mached and painted it again to fix it, and you can't even notice something was there.

I crossed my fingers the whole house wouldn't fall a part...just kidding, I made sure I tested it before removing the pillars. And it looks so much better. If you're making this and are using two boxes on top of each other instead of strips of cardboard then don't worry about adding the pillar.

                                       (after)

So a few things changed in this room, I continued with the wallpaper and stripes on both side walls, new rug, plus new legs on the coffee table. I also added a little skeleton head on a piece of  wood and glued it to the wall. Can you see the outside background. That was the background I made for the show scenes, and it works great as a background to the schoolhouse, plus its the parking lot and park...who know's maybe a few of the characters will go camping too.

The vase was a spray bottle lid, I wrapped scrap paper around it and a black piece of pipe cleaner around the rim. The coffee table is a piece of cardboard and I added craft sticks all around it, painted it silver and added clothes pins I took apart as legs for the table, a lot more sturdy.

The couch was made with sponges, cardboard and the material you see covering it. The cushion is a flower. I wanted to soften up the room. The lighting is a pine cone I painted white. I love how it looks.

Thank you for stopping by...the next rooms on our tour will be the new dorms. The rooms are fairly new but have already gone through a lot of changes.

School House Makeover DORM ROOM 1

Hey everyone, it's Skull Academy's school house one year anniversary this month. Last year at this time I was still working on it...painting and decorating, but I knew it was always going to be a 'work in progress' during this past year there have been many changes. New dorm rooms, new furniture etc...so here is some old and new pictures of the school house. Since it is our 'school house' one year anniversary, I mean Lola's 'school house' :) we are putting a few videos together on the school house. I will also post one room at a time on this blog during the next week...did I say it was Skull Academy's one year anniversary? I guess we're milking it...:)

This dormroom is Clawdeen and the Vamp sisters Draculaura and Draculily.
These pictures are older, I have learned a lot this past year about taking photographs and I know there is still so much to know. Plus I really should invest in a better camera.

 BEFORE  -  FEBRUARY 2012

AFTER  -  FEBRUARY 2013

I love how it looks now... but I do wish I glued some paper on the walls on the right, I didn't realize I missed it until I was taking the pictures - oh well, now it'll have to wait for our 2nd anniversary.
This wallpaper is from a dollar store gift bag. That's where I get my room inspiration. I go to the gift bag wall at the dollar store and search around until something hits me...if nothing inspires me, I go to the giftwrap rolls and hope I find something there.

Almost everything here is made by me...except the art, I found these pictures at the thrift store, I bought them for the frames, I painted the frames silver. I will be changing the art, we want to encourage you to send us pictures of your artwork and we will  remove whats in the frame and add  yours. We have already received some art, I should have changed it out already but we were hoping to get more. So if you want to see your artwork hanging in our school or restaurant during a scene of Skull Academy...start painting...:)

The chandeliers were made using wire and beads. The curtains are chiffon from an old scarf.
The lamp is also wire and beads. The dresser was a find from the thrift store, I painted it silver, then painted black stripes and a black giraffe print on the drawers. The coffins were made with cardboard and paper mache, then adorned with chains and gems stones. All my materials are found either through thrift stores, dollar stores or garage sales, so anyone can make them because it is inexpensive...cheap.

Hey, did you know that Draculaura collects Barbie dolls? Do you see it in the picture, top right corner.
They are the mini Polly Pockets....:)

The blankets, pillow and little rug are made by my mom, Lola's grandma.

monster high dorm room part 6 the vanity

This post will be the tutorial for the vanity...you can also check out the video version on our YouTube channel... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXuhDyySntE

Materials Needed...Cardboard, paper mache, paint, beads, mirror...

If you don't have a mirror like this one, this was an awesome garage sale find...both for $1.
Find a plain mirror and bling it up with beads and gems.

Don't forget the perfume bottles, just glue a big bead with a smaller bead.

And now the seat cushion, just glue a piece of fabric to some cardboard and glue it to seat.

My niece just bought another doll and she has no place to sleep...you know what that means, another dorm room. I am in the middle of paper mache the box and hopefully will start painting and wallpapering this weekend. Will post when I get some progress done.

Thank you for visiting...please subscribe and share...thank you!
